    Open Position: Engineering Tech I

    Job Purpose: Engineering Technicians perform plant maintenance and apply mechanical, electrical, automation, construction, science, math, and computer skills to precisely operate, monitor, design, service and repair a 24-hour LEED gold certified critical climate control system for a wide range of art that is sensitive to light, temperature and relative humidity. Engineering Technicians are responsible for designing new installations and servicing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and controls equipment with minimal plant downtime. Engineering Technicians assist in exhibit construction and special event set ups.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    Perform scheduled and unscheduled plant maintenance duties:

    Mechanical
    Air handlers, exhaust, supply, and return fans, heat wheels, pumps, low medium pressure chillers, heat exchangers, multi zone heat pumps, mini-split heat pumps, strainers, high pressure hot water boilers, steam boilers, steam traps, variable air velocity reheat boxes, fan coil units, filter racks, cooling towers, coils, bearings, packing glands, mechanical seals, duct work, lubrication, air compressors, dampers, other HVAC equipment, and fire suppression equipment.

    Electrical
    Install, repair, maintain, inspect and read blueprints related to Low voltage to 4160-volt, switch gears, transformers, Motor Control Centers, starters, power panels, breakers, fuses, switches, relays, contactors, dimmers, receptacles, Variable Frequency Drives, single phase and 3 phase motors, generators, battery backups, transfer switches, Ohm’s law, ballasts and drivers, wiring and lighting. All work performed must meet the regulations of the National Electrical Code.

    Plumbing
    Duties include using various methods to attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment. Measure and mark pipes for cutting, threading and welding. Use specific tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe dies and taps, benders, and welders.
    Install, repair, replace and maintain plumbing systems including sumps, hydronic lines, domestic water lines, irrigation systems, back flow preventers, steam lines, condensate lines, plumbing fixtures, water heaters, drains, vents, and pressure piping.
    Knowledge of chemical prevention for common breakdown materials including copper, stainless steel, cast iron, black steel, brass, lead, vinyl, fiberglass, PVC, and CPVC.
    Controls

    Pneumatic and DDC thermostats and actuators, instrumentation, sensors, automation systems including Andover Continuum, Triduum Ax, Power Link, Honeywell, Lutron – Hyperion and Grafik Eye, Clipsal, Modbus, DMX, BACnet, and Schedule Plus.
    Additional duties include:

    Supervising and coordinating contractors during construction projects and service maintenance.
    Troubleshoot and diagnostics of plant equipment.
    Daily boiler and chiller plant logs.
    Open and closed loop water testing.
    Blue print and schematic reading.
    Installing, operating, and retrofitting for increased efficiency while maintaining museum parameters.
    Required Qualifications: EPA 608: Universal. City of Saint Louis: Stationary Engineer’s License Class 1. BOC level 1 or 2 within 2 years of start date. High school diploma and technical training in Industrial, HVACR, Facilities Technology or Control Systems Technology. Familiarity with NEC and NFPA. Ability to cut and thread, weld, solder, and braze various pipe materials. Job requires competent manual skills and the ability to handle numerous details with minimum supervision. Physical ability to do manual work, including lifting up to 45 pounds. Must be comfortable with heights. Must have computer skills including Microsoft Office suite. Must have good communication skills. Must be willing and able to work nights, holidays and weekends, as well on-call for unscheduled repairs.

    Preferred: Experience with museum lighting and air quality standards.

    Additional Details:

    Minimum of Range: $23.36 per hour, commensurate with experience

    Details & Skills: Duties: This Dry Blend Operator position shall require training in Dry Blending manufacturing process of food flavor(s). This Operator shall be skilled in the use of forklifts, vacuum lifts, bad/Supersack filler, bad sealer, blender, batch controller and other equipment used in the dry blend batch manufacturing process. He/she must be able to operate equipment to dry blend and produce completed goods by adjusting raw material feed systems to monitor and control dry blend packaging parameters. The Dry Blend Operator shall take samples for dry ingredients and finished dry products as part of in-process quality control. As part of the production process, the Operator will use scales, supersacks, lifting and handling equipment. He/she must have training and certification to use forklift and at times provide assistance to other areas per Team Leader/Manufacturing Supervisor’s request. As part of housekeeping, Good Manufacturing Process (GMP), the Dry Blend Operator must maintain clean and orderly work area(s) and follow practices to minimize product contamination. He/She must be aware and communicate with Team Leader/Manufacturing Supervisor the status of the working process to ensure batch integrity. This Operator must be able to work with minimum direct supervision; and be responsible for Hazard Communication, be knowledgeable of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and Person Protective Equipment (PPE). In addition to the above, this Dry Blend Operator will be required to perform temporary, unusual or miscellaneous duties as directed by the Team Leader/Manufacturing Supervisor; and to complete any other duties as assigned by the Team Leader/Manufacturing Supervisor; restriction or a guarantee of responsibilities for this position. The four (4) major categories with subsidiary factors to constitute the Dry Blend Operator position will be listed as follows:
    A. DEGREE OF SKILL, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE 1. Knowledge of Machinery, Tools and Equipment Must be familiar in the use of the dry blending, packaging and filling equipment. Must be able to set up and operate the above equipment. Must have thorough knowledge of System(s) to disassemble and reassemble during sanitation/clean-up process on both a daily and weekly basis. Must understand and safely operate electric and hydraulic forklifts.
    2.Basic literacy skills. Able to write legibly and read documents.
    3.Basic math skills with ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide simple numbers.
    4.Basic computer skills.
    Knowledge of Materials and Process Must be familiar with and understand all materials used in Dry Blending. Thorough knowledge of process steps as per blend/batch sheet to monitor and maintain operations. Must be able to locate and identify finished product, raw materials and supplies. Must be trained in proper handling of hazardous chemicals through HazCom and MSDS>
    Difficulty of Operation Motions are simple and repetitive. Simple and repetitive motions such as handling bags and supersacks of various sizes, doing necessary clerical work, operating forklift truck. Dexterity is required in sealing and palletizing of bags, securing and blocking loads within trailer. Manual Accuracy and Quickness Controls of this operation require normal coordination.
    B. RESPONSIBILITY 1. Responsibility for Material and Equipment High cost equipment. Batch process involves medium cost of materials. High value finished products must be taken into consideration.
    Effect on Other Operations Mixes must be done right according to formula (Quality Control samples taken). If not within the Quality Control specifications, could result in inaccurate filling of customer orders. Possible effect on in-process production due to damaged or wrong delivery of raw materials. Possible effect on customer complaints due to shipping incorrect finished products.
    Concentration Requires above average concentration while dry blending; maintains alertness on product specifications and constant focus on potential safety hazards. Necessary Degree of Accuracy Must fill correctly. Mixes must be blended properly and data recorded accurately. Fully responsible for the accuracy in counting, weights, marking and any other clerical work. This is a 3rd Shift position - 9:45 PM to 6:15 AM
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS 1. Monotony Scope of duties keeps monotony to a minimum. Muscular Must be able to lift 50 to 80 pounds. Must be able to move dock plates. Fatigue Due to Eye Strain Operator works in a well lighted area with minimal amount of close tolerance work. Some eye strain occurs when doing clerical work.
