Assessment

About Assessment
In the City of St. Charles School District, assessment is an essential component of our commitment to academic excellence and student success. Assessment is used to support student learning by informing instruction and providing meaningful data that helps educators, students, and families track progress toward achieving end-of-course goals, including proficiency on Missouri Learning Standards.
Assessment is not just about measuring achievement--it is about guiding learning. Through a balanced and comprehensive system, we use multiple forms of assessment, including:
- Instructional formative assessments that provide ongoing feedback to adjust instruction and support student growth in real-time.
- Common formative and summative assessments that help teachers evaluate student progress toward priority standards and ensure consistency of success across classrooms.
- Benchmark assessments such as i-Ready (K-6) and IXL (7-12), which measure student proficiency within a school year and guide instructional planning.
- State and standardized assessments (MAP, EOC, MAP-A, WIDA) that measure student performance against Missouri Learning Standards at the end of a school year and inform district-wide instructional decisions.
Assessment is a collaborative process involving students, teachers, and professional learning communities. Our goal is to empower students to take ownership of their learning by understanding their progress, setting goals, and using assessment feedback to improve. We believe that assessment should be transparent, purposeful, and equitable, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
By using assessment data effectively, we strive to close learning gaps, differentiate instruction, and promote success for all students--ensuring they leave our district prepared for their futures.
