In April 2018, the SCSD Board of Education approved the implementation of the Seal of Biliteracy for graduating high school students who are proficient in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing in two or more languages!
The ELL Team is extremely excited about SCSD’s approval and promotion of biliteracy beginning this school year, 2018-2019. Guidelines and activities for each grade level have been created to support and encourage ALL K-12 students to begin working toward biliteracy. For more information, ask your school’s ELL Teacher about SCSD’s Pathways to Biliteracy Awards and an Application to participate.
“The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is dedicated to supporting Missouri schools in providing an education that fully prepares students for life in a global society and economy. These skills include the ability to communicate with clients, colleagues and associates who speak a language other than English as well as understand the sociocultural intricacies that can further enhance the relationship.”
A growing number of Missouri universities including Missouri State, Missouri Southern State and University of Central Missouri have committed to offering college credit for enrolled students who are awarded the Seal of Biliteracy.
