Letter from Dr. Sefrit 3/27/20
Dear City of St. Charles School District families,
Spring break has finally brought us some nicer weather, and I hope you’ve been able to get outside and enjoy it. As we get back into a week of learning next week, I want to send a few reminders for everyone and share important Chromebook pick-up information with our K-6 families.
As you’re aware, the instructional practice/support activities for students at home (review of essential learning skills) are still set in place for next week, March 30-April 3. Students (grades 7-12) should continue to work online as directed by their teacher, and PreK-6 students should continue working on the learning packets designated for their grade level. Learning packets for March16-April 3 are still available for pick-up at Blackhurst and Monroe during the continued food service pick-up.
With the extended school closure, we will begin delivering essential content through virtual instruction starting on Monday, April 6th. More information will be coming your way soon regarding the virtual learning plans. To support the virtual learning process at PreK-6, learning packets will also be available for pick-up or can be downloaded and printed from the District’s website. We will notify you when the new packets for the week of April 6 are available.
To make sure we’re ready for virtual learning, we are providing Chromebooks to any K-6 student without a dedicated device at home to be used for the remainder of the school year. Chromebook pick-up times will be Wednesday, April 1st from 8AM-12PM for Blackhurst, Lincoln, Harris and Jefferson; and Thursday, April 2nd from 8AM-12PM for Null, Coverdell, Monroe and Jefferson. This will be curbside Chromebook pick-up, from your vehicle. To limit wait time, we have created available time slots per building, so you can schedule a pick-up time. To schedule a pick-up time, please click here. Please add your child or children’s name in the description of the appointment. Anyone checking out a Chromebook for the duration of the school year will need to sign and bring the following signature form with you when you pick up your Chromebook at your student’s school. If you are unable to print this form prior to pick-up, we will have copies available at each school to have you fill out while in your car. Please note: Chromebooks will need a wireless internet connection to be used. If you do not have a wireless internet connection, District technology staff can share information regarding available free/low cost internet options during Chromebook pick-up.
Remember, breakfast/lunch (in one bag) is still available at no charge (drive-thru/grab n go) to all District families at the Blackhurst and Monroe pick-up locations from 7:30 -9:30AM through the entire closure. Matthias' Lot Church (636-388-8242) is also continuing to deliver meals to families that need assistance.
We look forward to transitioning into our extended, virtual learning plan with you. Although the situation is not ideal, our staff will continue to communicate fully with you and connect in every way possible with your children as we move forward. We are in this together, step by step.
